Petroglyph National Monument

Petroglyph National Monument is a large area
preserving the historic petroglyphs once created
by the early people who lived here and traveled through here.

The area we visited today was Boca Negra Canyon.
It has cliff sides down the mesa with the volcanic rocks
used as  petroglyphs in a close proximity to each other.

Amaya was eager to get out and visit the petroglyphs.

She was careful not to touch the rocks with the petroglyphs
on them, but there were plenty more to pose on!

The west side city of Albuquerque is on the near edge
of Boca Negra Canyon.

The main trail goes up a hillside that I am not comfortable
hiking up at this time. They have a trail, but I am both out of
shape and have a depth perception issue in walking downhill.

They call the trails "paved", but that does not mean
that there aren't uneven rocks and areas to hike over.

I may make it all the way to the top in better shape
and with a friend to feel safer with in how I hike.
It is something that is accessible to most people who
are able to hike up and downhill.

It is hot out! It is over 95 degrees out!
Tell them we did not go to the top because we wanted
pictures, but it was too hot to walk the whole trail!!!

I took some photos of Amaya with the petroglyphs behind her.

Do you see it? Do you see the petroglyph behind me?

After the main trail, we went to a short trail near the restrooms.

Let's see just a few more petroglyphs before we leave!

Even though our visit was fairy fast in the hot temperatures,
it was a peaceful place to visit and we enjoyed the outing.
