It is not unusual for me to hear the sound of hot air balloons
overhead on some mornings; the burners creating rise in the balloon
with a sound like Darth Vader exhaling.
But, for the next 9 days, the hot air balloons will fill the skies
from the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
In addition to mass ascensions when the weather is cooperating,
there are other activities and events at the Balloon Fiesta park.
There are many vendors with food, and collectibles like Balloon Fiesta lapel pins.
Evening "glowdeo" events light up the balloons without
the balloons ascending into a full flight.
The special shapes balloons are crowd favorites at the park
and everywhere!
Some balloons descend to the Rio Grande,
touching the water before rising again.
This is called a "splash and dash".

My favorite balloons are New Mexico True.
I have lived here for 15 years, and have never gone.
The local news channels have coverage for about 2 hours
on weekend mornings,
and of course, many balloons can be seen in the sky.
All our recreational and tourist sites and events
are impacted by the thousands of visitors who are attending
the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta during the next week

Even if this event stays in the background of my experience here,
the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
is one of our signs of fall.
Rising balloons bring falling temperatures!
